About Toto
Toto was formed in 1976 by guitarists Jeff Porcaro, David Paich (who at the time were also well-known studio musicians working with Boz Scaggs) and singer/bassist Bobby Kimball. The name comes from the Latin word meaning "all encompassing," the group was determined to explore every style of music.
In 1981, Toto's third album Turn Back was a flop, but they rebound with their fourth album Isolation that features two hits including the title track and Roseanna. The album and tour established them as a brand around the world.
After a gap of couple of years, Toto return with the album Fahrenheit in 1986. It is a departure from the ballads of their previous albums and also includes some heavy rock. This album was their first to be certified platinum in North America.
In the course of recording the band's fifth album the band loses their manager and is put in financial difficulty. They decide to record a brand new album and change their name a different producer. Lead vocalist Fergie Frederiksen leaves the band and is replaced by Joseph Williams, son of the legendary film composer John Williams and 1950s actress Barbara Ruick. Joseph is a more natural frontman than Frederiksen and gives the band a needed boost.
The band releases Mindfields in 1999 and goes on a massive worldwide tour. After several weeks in Europe The band then travels to Japan for sold-out shows. After a brief hiatus, Toto resumes their recording and releases their first live album, Absolutely Live in 1993. Following this, the band disbanded once again. Toto came back together for a benefit concert in 2010 to raise funds for the ALS Foundation. This was the first time that all the original Toto members had been on stage together in over 31 years. In addition to the original members, keyboardist Greg Tambu filled in for Paich and bassist David Hungate filled in for Shem Von Schroeck.

The album was a return to the band's top form and the tour that went with it featured sold-out shows in North America and Europe. Toto's reunion gained momentum with the return of bassist Shem Von Schroeck and guitarist Steve Lukather.
